The Ritchie Group

The Ritchie Group (TRG) is a second-generation family office, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, that has owned and developed real estate for over 40 years. TRG’s primary focus is on multifamily, self-storage, industrial, and hospitality real estate development projects.  In the last 5 years, TRG has delivered 1.2 Million SF of multi-story self-storage facilities, 500,000 SF of industrial warehouse, and approximately 1,000 units of multifamily housing.  TRG has a development queue of 1,000+ multifamily units, 400+ keys of hospitality, and 700,000+ SF of industrial warehouse at various stages of design and development.

The Ritchie Group believes that the act of identifying a property’s highest and best use will yield the maximum desired outcome for the greatest public and private benefit.  Our core philosophy holds that great real estate transcends cycles.  Because we are long-term holders of our assets, the additional investment to make an asset exceptional benefits all stakeholders, including the city/county where it will live out its economic duration.

Founder & Principal - Paul Ritchie is a co-Founder and Managing Partner of The Ritchie Group and helped establish the strategy and approach for the company. Paul is responsible managing the firm’s investment and capitalization activities. Paul joined The Ritchie Group with extensive experience in real estate investment, real estate development, and private lending.

Paul has been acquiring, investing in, and managing development properties since 1996. He began his career with a Utah-based family office where he developed an expertise in financial modeling, due diligence, project capitalization and project management.    

Paul holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laud, in International Relations from Brigham Young University (BYU). He received his MBA from the Marriott School of Management at BYU with an emphasis in Finance and Entrepreneurship.

Founder & Principal - Ryan Ritchie is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of The Ritchie Group (TRG).  He has been instrumental in setting the direction and vision for the Company.  His primary roles at TRG include deal sourcing, project entitlements, design development, market feasibility, construction management, and overall project management of a design and construction team.

 Ryan has a passion for creating great real estate. He believes strongly in the philosophy that the highest quality of real estate yields the best returns for the greatest public and private benefit.  Ryan received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University (BYU).

Founder & Principal - Prior to joining The Ritchie Group, Rob served as a Vice President of Ritchie Enterprises and managed several single family residential developments from acquisition to exit. Rob’s real estate matriculation has included the purchase, rehabilitation and sale of distressed properties, the entitlement of nearly 1,000 single family building lots, management of a substantial portfolio of commercial properties, and project manager of a 46-acre industrial park near the Salt Lake International Airport. Rob received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Brigham Young University.

Founder & Principal - Jayson Newitt is a co-Founder and Managing Partner of The Ritchie Group.  He has been working in real estate development since 1996 and plays key management roles in some of The Ritchie Group’s primary developments with an emphasis on project management activities.   Prior to joining The Ritchie Group, Jayson was a partner with The Boyer Company which included managing development projects in several states throughout the country.  Jayson worked in Washington D.C. for Marriott International where he participated in a Leadership Development Program with corporate rotational assignments in architecture and construction, finance, strategy, e-commerce, and brand management. 

Jayson received an MBA from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Brigham Young University. 

STEPHANIE ACTON

Accounting - Stephanie works in the accounting department at TRG and is responsible for multiple projects. She supports the construction draw process along with the monthly and year end accounting needs. Stephanie has been working as the Project Accountant at The Ritchie Group since 2017.  Prior to joining The Ritchie Group, she worked in Commercial Property Management for over 5 years in Park City, Utah. 

 Stephanie received a BS degree in Accounting & Business Management from the Woodbury School of Business at Utah Valley University. 

DEAN CLARK

Principal & Controller - Dean serves as The Ritchie Group’s controller and the Director of Information Systems. Prior to joining TRG, Dean Clark worked as an accountant performing audits in the construction industry. Prior to his involvement at the CPA firm Dean was the Controller and CFO for Hyperbaric Medicine Group, which constructed and operated hyperbaric clinics. He also served as the CFO of Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he oversaw the companies start-up development, financial operations, cash management, purchasing, information systems, and developed company pro formas and financial forecasting analysis. Dean also served as the Controller and Director of Information Systems for ASC Group, a firm that constructed and operated surgical hospitals throughout the country. Dean received his undergraduate degree and a Masters in Business Administration from Brigham Young University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

Principal - Corey Berg is a Principal at The Ritchie Group his focus is on Industrial projects including bulk distribution and self storage. Corey has served as the Venture Partner at TRG and has invested in and incubated growth in several start-up companies. He currently sits on the board of LifeE, Mycore and MovieMouth.

In addition, Corey has managed the Timp Investment Fund for the last 10 years, a Fund that focuses on energy, real estate and software investments.

Prior to joining TRG Corey was a Director at The Structure Group a software and consulting firm working in deregulated power markets across the US.

After graduating from Brigham Young University with a BS in Accounting, Corey worked for Andersen in their economic and financial consulting group where he worked on financial modeling and business valuation.

BRETT MCDONNOUGH

Principal - Brett is involved in various areas of both accounting and finance on a project specific basis as well as company wide. Brett currently manages Brickyard Towers, a commercial office building in which Brett has assumed the role for project accounting and primary property management responsibilities for the 100,000 square foot, $12 million dollar, 25+/- tenant commercial office building. Before joining The Ritchie Group in 2008, Brett owned and operated ANB Properties, a residential management company suited to assist developers building PUD communities throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Brett managed the general oversight of all construction practices and project logistics associated with planning, building, and project completion. Brett received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from the University of Utah.

NATALIE PRUITT

Office Manager - Natalie provides support for the entire TRG team as the Office Manager. Her responsibilities include office management, administrative assistance and AP/AR accounting matters.  She provides AP/AR assistance for multiple properties currently under management and any project that needs additional support.

Natalie’s previous experience has been in construction, pharmaceutical research, legal and payroll. This experience allows her to support various areas of the project development life-cycle. She studied Criminal Law and Psychology at Westminster (in Salt Lake) and Great Basin College (in Elko, Nevada) respectively.

Project Manager -  Scott joined The Ritchie Group in 2014. During his time at TRG, Scott has primarily participated in developing multi-family and hospitality projects. His responsibilities include managing project-specific investment and capitalization activities, pro forma modeling, asset management, and project management.

Scott graduated Cum Laude from the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University with honors and received Bachelor of Science Degrees in Finance and Economics. He will graduate in 2019 with a Master of Real Estate Development from the Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.

Project Manager -  Tyler works as an analyst and project manager for TRG. Tyler has extensive background in purchase and sale of real estate and has overseen well over $100 million in transactions. Tyler is currently working on several hospitality and multifamily projects.

Founder, Ritchie Enterprises  - Jim is the founder of Ritchie Enterprises, a family limited partnership formed in 1973. The consummate entrepreneur, Jim built, owned, and managed several successful businesses including a Chevrolet dealership, hotels, restaurants, and distributorships. After a brief elective early retirement to perform civic and church service, Jim returned to Utah in 1989. He joined Franklin International Institute, Inc. (now FranklinCovey) as its Senior Vice President of Sales and Training. He led a department of over 300 sales executives, trainers, and other personnel. When Jim left Franklin in 1994, the company had gone public and had a CAP value of over $1 billion. Jim received his Bachelor of Science in accounting from Brigham Young University and performed graduate studies at the University of Utah and at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). The Ritchie Group, L.C, now carries on the day-to-day activities of managing past real estate and investment ventures of Ritchie Enterprises.
